How much space is available?
Is there space in the bathroom for a large shower enclosure? Will you need to knock out a wall?
Walk-in showers can be as small as 36-by-36 inches. However, if you currently have a bathtub/shower combination and no longer want the tub, you’ll have at least 60 inches in width to work with which is ideal for a luxurious shower. It’s also likely that you’ll be able to save some money in your budget by using the existing plumbing.
Have you considered a walk-in shower?
Walk-In showers are showers that remain level with the floor of your bathroom. With or without doors, they are a hot trend in bathroom design because they are easy to maintain and can be made accessible for people with mobility problems by eliminating thresholds and installing built-in seating platforms. They can be square, rectangular or even angled to fit in a corner.

Do you want a framed or frameless shower enclosure?
Framed showers are typically made from thin, relatively inexpensive glass that is only about 1/8″ to 3/16″ thick, so metal frames are required to hold them in place. Frameless showers are made with thicker 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch glass and can stand on their own with just a few metal channels or metal caps at the corners of the doors and extra-strength hinges.
Does the shower need a door?
Sliding doors use the least amount of space because there is no door swing to worry about. Pivot doors are hinged and easy to clean, but require adequate floor space. Neo-angle shower doors offer unique designs for corner showers. Or go without a door and enjoy a true walk-in shower. Glass blocks are another excellent way to create privacy without a door and enhance the room design. They can also be used to contain water spray.
What type of glass do you prefer?
Clear glass will give you a feeling of more space in a small room. Frosted, textured or heavily tinted glass will provide all the privacy you need.
How will you finish the walls and floor?
Consider our natural travertine stone shower and tub surrounds. It’s available in a variety of colors, variegations and patterns that will bring character to your bathroom. Not only is it attractive, but it’s easy to clean and barely shows water spots. Travertine is not limited to shower enclosures; it can also be used for walls, floors, sinks and fixtures.
