Cabinet Trends for 2015 and Beyond
- The Furniture Look – It could be a throwback to the styles of the early 1900s or a European influence, but cabinets aren’t looking like plain boxes any more. The most interesting new kitchen and bathroom cabinets have the look of elegant furniture. You’ll see built-in cabinets that resemble freestanding armoires, fancy turned-leg sinks, appliances hidden behind cabinet doors, ornate kitchen islands and bathroom vanities that look more like antique sideboards and dressers, kitchen ranges with corbel-supported mantels overhead, and other pieces with decorative carvings, cutouts, and crown moldings.
- Custom Interiors – It used to be that built-in spice racks or lazy Susans in your kitchen cabinets were good enough. Not anymore! Today, you’ll find all sorts of pullout trays, drawer inserts that are customized for your china or silverware, pullout cabinet doors attached to shelves for pots and pans, special cabinets for recycling and garbage bins, and other features that will help keep your room well-organized.
- Glass – Glass-front cabinet doors are popular for displaying your dishes, glassware and collectibles, but they also break up the monotony of wall-to-wall cabinets.
- Wood – Wood cabinets always seem to be popular, but colors change. Cherry, oak, maple and walnut are in demand, but birch has lost some of its allure. White is the new “neutral” color in cabinets and kitchen appliances, primarily because it looks simple and clean and works in all styles of kitchens and baths. But gray seems to be the next go-to color.
- Warm Accents – Stainless steel is still around, but the trend is toward warmer metals. Oil-rubbed bronze has become popular for faucets, handles and knobs in bathrooms and kitchens. But brushed nickel, chrome and copper are also good choices.
