Cape Coral Bathroom Flooring Options

As you plan for bathroom remodeling in Cape Coral, take a little time to consider your flooring options. From ceramic tiles to cement or natural stone, the possibilities are endless.

The floor you choose for your new bathroom will set the tone of the entire room.

Durability, slip-resistance and ease of maintenance are three main factors to think about. But the main consideration for bathroom flooring is, of course, moisture. Virtually any material can be used to cover bathroom walls and floors as long as it’s waterproof, either naturally or by the application of an impermeable finish. Here are four favorites:

Bathroom Flooring Options

  1. Sheet Linoleum – Linoleum is a stylish, low-maintenance, eco-friendly surface for any bathroom floor. It’s made from all natural renewable resources, and doesn’t contain any adhesives that release toxins into the environment. When properly sealed against moisture penetration, it naturally resists mold, mildew and bacteria growth. When disposed of, it is biodegradable and naturally breaks down in the environment. Properly maintained linoleum can last 25 to 40 years, but be sure to purchase high-quality water-resistant linoleum and then have it installed in a proper, watertight manner. If you want real linoleum, make sure you don’t end up with vinyl by mistake.
  2. Vinyl Sheets and Tile– Easy to clean and maintain, vinyl is still a popular choice for floors. It’s very durable, comfortable underfoot, and resists steam, humidity, and moisture. Sheet vinyl comes in large sheets that can cover the entire floor without leaving exposed seams. But it can be difficult to cut perfectly and, if any part of it is damaged, the entire floor will have to be removed and replaced. Vinyl is budget-friendly and available in styles that look like high-end tile and stone. Large format vinyl tile can be a low-cost alternative to more expensive ceramic or porcelain tile, but is not as resilient as sheet vinyl and, if not sealed or grouted, can allow moisture to penetrate to the sub-floor.
  3. Ceramic and Porcelain Tile – You can complement any bathroom design, from simple to luxurious, with classic ceramic and/or porcelain tile on floors and other surfaces. They can be installed on top of radiant heating to add warmth to the room. They are durable and water-resistant and available in an amazing assortment of styles, colors and finishes. You can even find tiles in animal prints, shiny metallics, and styles that resemble leather, silk or natural stone.
  4. Stone Tile – Natural stone is durable and lasts for many years. It can be used in everything from traditional to contemporary bathrooms and comes in small- and large-format tiles and mosaics. Honed travertine floors are a particularly luxurious option. A type of limestone, travertine has a rich, warm tone with natural beauty and unmatched durability. It has a naturally pitted surface that is honed (or sanded down) and filled with epoxy resin to smooth it out. One big plus in comparison to ceramic and other stone tiles is that travertine has perfectly straight cut edges. It can be laid end-to-end without the need for grout. Travertine floors will give your bathroom a high-end look.

There are many other options, including river rock, pebble stones, marble and even concrete.
